The new Instapaper is here for iOS 7, and it’s flatter. Betaworks has simplified the app’s layout to fit the design aesthetic of iOS 7, and it looks great.
The biggest addition to Instapaper 5.0 is article filtering by date, length, read time, and popularity. Videos have finally been sorted into their own folder with today’s release as well.
You can access these helpful options under “Sort.” Search requires a small subscription of $3 per month or $12 per year.
This is the biggest update to Instapaper in quite awhile, and as someone who quit the service quite awhile ago to switch to Pocket, it’s interesting to see how the service has matured over the years. I remember when Instapaper was utterly barebones. Now it’s full of options. Themes include white, sephia, and black. Type choices are plentiful. There’s even a curated link list called The Feature.
Instapaper 5.0 is a big step forward for the app’s design. It’s the perfect example of an iOS 7 app done right. In the battle between the read it later services, Instapaper has a much more full-featured app than its competition. Under Betaworks, the future of Instapaper looks bright. I’m still mainly a Pocket user, but I’m much more impressed with Instapaper’s iOS 7 release than Pocket’s.
You can download the new Instapaper for free in the App Store.
