For those of us waiting for a hardcore iPad version of massively online battle arena (MOBA) game like League of Legends or Defense of the Ancients, Open Feint founder Jason Citron might have the solution. His latest gaming company, Hammer & Chisel, has been hard at work creating the tablet-only MOBA, Fates Forever.

We spoke with Citron a while back about the development challenge of a more core game for iPads. Citron calls this one a “reinterpretation of the world’s most popular hardcore game,” Riot Games’ League of Legends, for tablets like the iPad.

Check out the video below.

Originally a mod for popular real-time strategy game, Warcraft III, MOBAs continue to increase in popularity, especially after the release and subsequent success of Riot Games’ League of Legends, which has become a popular e-sporting event on a variety of gaming channels worldwide. Blizzard took notice, and should be releasing the sequel to its Defense of the Ancients MOBA sometime soon.

Zynga has released a MOBA for iPad, as have several other smaller developers. Citron is no longer alone in bringing the typically Mac and PC-based gaming genre to mobile users of all stripe. He hopes, though, to be the best one of all, with a unique control system and a focus on MOBA-specific quality, something he feels hasn’t been explored fully in the tablet space.

If the video above is any indication, Fates Forever should be a solid entry to the MOBA space, on iPad or any other platform. We’ll keep an eye on this one for you, including any details on when it might release.
