Nova: A Real Flashing “Flash” For The iPhone

By

The Nova is yet another external “flash” for your iPhone, only this one is different in a few ways: It’s Bluetooth, it’s iPhone-controlled, and it fits in your pocket or even your wallet.

The light connects to your iPhone wirelessly via Bluetooth and can be controlled from a companion app. It uses LEDs to provide a the light, and the app can switch the unit between three power levels, as well as adjusting the white level of the lamps from warm to cold. The app also has a built-in in camera app so you can snap pictures right there, changing the Nova settings as you go.

Unlike other LED flashes, this one actually flashes when you take the photo, thus saving on battery power and annoying the subjects of your photo much less. The built-in li-polymer battery will provide around 150 flashes between charges, and it small enough to slide into your wallet along with your credit cards.

I kinda want one. The only things i regularly miss when shooting with my iPhone are a telephonto lens and some decent off-camera lighting. The former is taken care of by the Olloclip, and the latter might now be taken care of with this $49 lamp. OR I could keep using my old iPod touch as a light, I guess, but it’s not really very bright.

The catch? Kickstarter. The Nova is gathering funds for a projected February delivery.
