Ashton Kutcher Hits Back At Steve Wozniak’s Bashing Of Jobs [Video]

Steve Wozniak has made his feelings about Ashton Kutcher’s Jobs movie pretty clear, but how does he really feel about the film? Kutcher believes Woz’s views could be swayed by the fact he’s being paid by another studio to support a different Steve Jobs movie, and because Jobs doesn’t place enough focus on Woz’s contribution to Apple.

Woz famously slammed the first Jobs biopic back in January when he called the script “crap” and said that a scene which appeared in its one-minute trailer never happened.

In June, Woz added that he couldn’t judge the film until he had seen it, but said he was worried that it would portray Jobs as “a saint who was ignored, rather than one of the key people who led Apple through failure after failure.”

“Woz is being paid by another company to support a different Steve Jobs film,” Kutcher told The Hollywood Reporter when asked what he would say to Woz to change his mind about the film. “It’s personal for him, but it’s also business. We have to keep that in mind.”

Kutcher is referring to Sony’s “official” Jobs biopic, which is being written by The West Wing writer Aaron Sorkin and is based on Walter Isaacson’s authorized biography of Jobs. Sorkin revealed he had hired Woz as an adviser for the film during an interview with Reuters in May.

“The biggest criticism that I have ultimately heard,” Kutcher said, “is that he [Woz] wanted it to represent his contribution to Apple fairly, but in all fairness the movie’s called Jobs, and it’s about Jobs and the legacy of Jobs, so I think it focuses more on what his contribution to Apple was.”

It’s not our video — it is Hollywood Reporter’s, so it’s their as, too.

I am surprised at Woz. Seems like he is being really petty about the whole thing.

Petty? Seriously? When YOU are their technological genius behind everything that Apple started with and the guy they idolize in a factually inaccurate movie was the sales guy? I don’t deny Steve Jobs was one of the seminal people of the 20th century at all but he is in a place BEHIND Woz in that he was the second fiddle to the REAL creative genius of Steve Wozniak.Steve Jobs was brilliant and driven, make no mistake about that, but he was not the true genius of the pair just the publicity agent.:)

As for Woz being petty, he isn’t being petty at all. He’s put off that the movie incorporates utter bullshit as historical and ignores major issues and refuses to give credit where it is grotesquely overdue. Anybody else would be suing the pants off Asshat Kooter and everyone else in the production of that movie. WOZ IS CLASSY ENOUGH TO LET IT SLIDE. He Just wants to be sure he gets a chance to speak the truth over a fictionalized version of HIS history.

I would do no less myself.

Or he could have made no comment.

Just because the movie is called Jobs doesn’t mean you can ignore others or misrepresent them. Especially since the movie isn’t about Steve so much as Apple

I’d say Ashton dismissing Woz opinion with he implication that he is being paid by
Sorkin et al to speak against any other film is way more petty than Woz wanting a little accuracy would ever be.

Wow, talk about misrepresenting things. You seem to idolise Woz the way most people idolise Jobs. Woz was far from the “technological genius behind everything Apple started.” Woz contributed some good stuff early on when it was all about chip design, but the man has literally done nothing since. Nothing. Woz contributed very little to anything beyond the chip design of a few of their early computers.

In any case, the movie is not even supposed to be a historically accurate document about what happened at Apple computer in the first place.

It is *specifically* (and marketed as such BTW) a movie about Steve Jobs the *person*. It’s about the way he thought, the way he designed things, and the way that person and that design ethic evolved. It showcases all his failures along the way and is simply not intended to be anything like what most people are criticising it over.

Respectfully, you haven’t got a clue as to the realities of the early days of Apple and the true contributions made by Woz.

In that light it would be a waste of time trying to argue with you as you don’t have the requisite knowledge of the time to make a reasoned and fact based point (as demonstrated by your utter ignorance of the contribution levels of Woz or Jobs) so I will merely politely suggest that you endeavour to increase your awareness and knowledge of the time in question with a a bit of reading.

The Isaacson book is a good start but iWoz is a better one. There are more but when you have read those two books and understand what they say you too will have the requisite knowledge to understand the facts. You’ll be better able to understand why Asshat Kooter’s assertions against Woz were the source of pettiness and the fact that a biopic distorts those facts and the only living person of the only TWO who knew these facts disputes the movie and it’s errors would sort of put the movie down to being wrong and the guy who was actually there might be more likely to be not only more honest but actually correct.

The movie is a failure anyway so who cares? Woz would know better than anyone else and Kooter’s idiotic pettiness is showing clearly. Let him go tweet about his new camera commercial or something and stop trying to be something he sin’t (an expert on the history of Apple) but the person he criticized actually is.

Stop allowing your blind devotion to Jobs blind you to the truth.
