Looks like the venerable video game company is looking to get in on some of GungHo’s Puzzle & Dragons action with Taito’s own arcade-music mashup iOS game, Groove Coaster Zero.

The two companies have just announced a new collaboration in which Groove Coaster Zero gets original and remixed background music from breakout hit Puzzle & Dragons as playable levels in Groove Coaster Zero. In addition, Puzzle & Dragons will get some special Groove Coaster Zero-themed dungeons along with classic Space Invader characters. That’s a mouthful, but super exciting, and it’s coming August 12.

Puzzle & Dragons will get new Technical Dungeons, which have enemies who can use special skills to fight back against the match-three players, and will include four difficulty settings to challenge even the most expert of Puzzle & Dragons players. The Space Invaders characters will include standard and evolved versions of the Octopus, Crab, Squid, UFO, and Groove Coaster Zero’s own Crab invader.

Groove Coaster Zero fans will get a remixed version of composer Kenji Ito’s “Departure,” which will be available to play for free during the crossover event. The top 1,000 ranked players in the level will get ten free items at the end of the campaign. There’s also a deluxe level pack on offer, cleverly named the “Puzzles & Dragons Pack.” Fans can purchase this content pack for $4.99, and it includes four playable tracks by Kenji Ito, as well as one special remix. Those who purchase this will also get a special limited edition avatar based on the King Metal Dragon from Puzzles and Dragons.

Puzzle & Dragons and Groove Coaster Zero are available on the App Store for free.
