Bind: A Combination Keyboard Tidy And iMac Shelf

Bind is one of those ideas that’s so simple that you get the idea you could just go and make it yourself. It’s a wide band of “methacrylate compound” (aka plastic) that has a few slots cut into it to fit the battery chambers of your Apple wireless keyboard and your Magic Trackpad. The idea is that it keeps them next to each other on your desk.

But there’s another trick in there, too.

Along with its rather pointless desktop abilities, the Bind also has a little cutout that lets it grab onto the leg of the iMac and sit there, acting as a shelf. This shelf can support up to 4kg, and the slots already in it mean that you can also hang your keyboard and trackpad there, dangling like dead flies in a spider’s web.

Finally, you get to choose from a range of fetchingly bright colors, and I guess you could even flip it to put the Magic Trackpad on the left (which is where I put it, despite being right handed).

I don’t really care for the OCD trackpad/keyboard tidying aspect of the Bind, but I do like it as a shelf. In fact I like it so much that I’m planning on taking a Dremel to a piece of plywood to fashion my own. No, it mightn’t be made from methacrylate compound, but neither will it cost me around £20 ($30), nor will I have to wait for the Kickstarter campaign to end before I get it.
