We’re big fans of the Philips Hue lighting system, which allows you to control your house’s mood and lighting with a slick iOS app. The only problem is that there’s been only one kind of Hue lightbulb until now.
But the Hue lineup is getting more versatile. Philips is set to expand their funky Wi-Fi-controlled lightbulb line with LightStrips and Bloom Bulbs.
Philips already has LightStrips and Bloom Bulbs in their lighting arsenal, but this is the first time they’ve worked with Hue. LightStrips come in two meter flexible strips, and are used in the same way, for example, a teenage girl might string Christmas tree lights around her bedroom in April. Mood lighting.
The Bloom Bulb is meant to illuminate specific objects in a room with a 120 lumen LED light. So, for example, if you have a totem to R’lyeh on a Satanic pedestal in your bedroom, you could wirelessly control the lighting on it with your Hue Bloom Bulb.
The new additions to the Hue line will go on sale in the coming weeks, both online and at Apple’s retail locations. You already need to own the Philips Hue starter kit; if you pony up $199.95 for that, the LightStrips will cost you $89.95, while the Bloom Bulb is $79.95.
