All Panasonic’s hopes of a surprise launch of its GX7 camera have been dashed. The Micro Four Thirds body has now been fully leaked, with what look to be official pictures and specs. And what a camera. If you have had your eye on one of Fujifilm’s retro-styled but ultra-modern x-series cameras, but already own a clutch of Micro Four Thirds lenses, then this camera may well be for you.
First, the specs, in easy-to-read (and even easier to paste) list form:
- 16MP Digital Live MOS sensor
- Full HD, 1920×1080/60p videos
- 90 degrees tiltable 2.76 million dots EVF
- Maximum shutter speed: 1/8000
- Highest ISO sensitivity: 25600
- 22 creative filters/modes
- Panorama mode
- Silent mode
- In-body image stabilization
- Focus peaking
- NFC and Wi-Fi connectivity
- Tiltable 3.0″ 1.04 million dots LCD screen
- Magnesium alloy body
The real news comes from looking at the photos, though. The big addition is that tilting, 2.76 million-dot viewfinder, which will let you use focus-peaking for accurate manual focus.
Then we see the amout of hardware switches built into the magnesium body, with direct access to ISO, white balance and other oft-tweaked settings. There are also three programmable function buttons on the back, which might go some way to mitigate the lack of hardware dials for shutter speed and aperture.
A pop-up flash and a flip-out LCD complete the picture, and there is even a Panasonic first in the form of on-sensor image stabilization.
The only thing we don’t know is the price, although the official announcement should be soon.
