August was a good month for streaming music services with in-app purchases.

The Pandora app for iOS has today been updated with a number of new features that promise to make your listening experience all the more pleasurable. In addition to improved playback buffering, there’s a new automatic pause feature, Pandora URL support, and more.

Improved playback buffering aims to keep your music “stutter-free,” and enhance performance over a “flaky” connection. What’s more, Pandora will now automatically pause your music when you mute your iPhone to ensure you don’t miss a song.

Pandora for iOS also supports Pandora URLs now, so you now longer have to open them on Pandora.com. Finally, the new update comes with “bug fixes and improvements to keep your music playing as it should.”

All of these things are clearly designed to improve the Pandora user experience on iOS, but will they help convince existing Pandora users to stick around when iTunes Radio is launched this fall?
