Imagine that you took the aluminum frame from the inside of, uh, something that has a small, iPhone-sized metal frame. Then – still in the garden of your mind – imagine that you chopped the cover off a fancy leather bound book and glued the flat flap to the pre-scavenged frame. Now open your eyes and look at the picture above. Uncanny right? It’s exactly what you imagined.
The case, which will launch on July 10th, is the Signature by Truffol, and is pretty much what I described above. The frame is CNC machined to within 0.003 inches of its life, and the back is covered with 4mm of leather from Santa Croce sull’Arno in Italy. There’s also a steel-backed version.
But the best part is that it need a little bit of putting together, kind of like high-end Meccano. You get to slot in the rockers that cover the volume buttons, and add the front plate which covers the iPhone’s bezel.
The price? A mere $75 for the leathery version and an even lower $60 for the steel. In a world of overpriced boutique cases, these look like a steal (or steel?).
