Before you say anything: Yes, I know this is a case for the Kindle and not for an iPad or other Apple device. But I don’t care because a) it’s super cool and should be made for the iPad mini and b) you probably own a Kindle anyway.
It’s called the Wingo, and it adds a pair of pop-out wings to your e-reader.
The Wingo is a lightweight, hollow ABS plastic case with a soft-touch exterior, plus a pair of wings which slowly open out at the touch of a button. It’s a little like a kids toy airplane, only more comfortable to hold.
And comfort is the key here: the case is designed to relieve stress on your hands and fingers cause by gripping the Kindle too tight. The wings let the device rest on your fingers so you don’t have to do any gripping at all.
This would clearly make a great design for the iPad mini, too. The mini is light enough to be held in one hand, but the skinny bezels and slippery surface make gripping tricky.
The Wingo is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter, so it’s likely to be a while before we see anything for the iPad, if ever. So I’m taking things (literally) into my own hands and planning to make my own. I figure a strip of self-adhesive velcro across the back of the iPad might do the trick, letting me stick on a horizontal bar whenever I like. If it works out well, expect a how-to post sometime this week…
In the meantime, the Wingo will need a minimum of around $60 from your Kickstarter piggy bank.
