Should Apple Disable iPhone Notifications During A Call In iOS 7? [Let's Talk]

Over at The New York Times, Bits columnist Nick Bilton has a gripe to pick with Apple. He doesn’t like the fact that push notifications keep pouring in during a voice call on the iPhone. ”Even when the device is placed on mute, it vibrates when a notification comes in, rattling your skull for a never-ending second,” says Bilton.

I had never actually thought about this annoyance until I read Bilton’s piece. And coincidentally, it actually happened to me while I was on the phone earlier today. I remember quickly pulling my iPhone away from my face in shock at the vibration and loud noise in my ear.

This seems like something that should be fixed. What say you? Should Apple say hasta la vista to notifications during phone calls in iOS 7? Let us know in the comments below!

ABSOLUTELY!!!! I have converted almost a dozen people from Android phones to iPhones and every single one of them called me complaining about the alerts in their ear…..and I am annoyed by it as well. For a phone that has so many wonderful options I think it is sad that it is lacking in this arena……fortunately for Apple the other pros of an iPhone far outweigh this con, but it would still be nice to see them change it!

And the most stupid thing about this is that the alarm clock rings as well when you’re on the phone. I mean come on, I’m bloody awake; I’m on the fucking phone already! Hit me up with a vibration instead, or a subtle sound, not blasting my alarm clock in my fucking ear – it’s bad enough I just woke up.

Completely off topic, but I couldn’t agree more. Also, Do Not Disturb really needs to be enabled even when the phone is unlocked.

Ha! I’ve been complaining about this exact thing for as long as I’ve owned an iPhone. I’ve sent a ton of feedback reports and bugged Apple constantly and they’ve never done anything about it. At least it doesn’t ring through the speaker anymore…

Absolutely. Someone called me, but I could only hear half of what they were saying because the Google Maps lady was being a chatty Kathy.

Yes, that would be great. I use Runkeeper and would prefer not to be interrupted by calls, texts, emails, etc.
