Google Search Update Finally Brings Google Now To Your iOS Device

Google promised us it was coming, and after a lengthy Google Now today makes its debut on iOS. It’s available as part of an update to the Google Search app, and it’s exactly what users on Android have been enjoying for the past year.

Google Now is undoubtedly one of the highlights of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and many felt it was a feature that would remain exclusive to Google’s mobile platform. We were surprised, then, when a Google Now for iOS trailer surfaced back in March, and even more surprised when Google chairman Eric Schmidt confirmed it was on its way a week later.

Those who have used the feature on Android will already know how to use it on iOS, because it’s exactly the same — the only difference is it’s baked into an app, rather than the OS itself. But for those who are new to Google Now, here’s what it can do:

Google Now gets you just the right information at just the right time.

It tells you today’s weather before you start your day, how much traffic to expect before you leave for work, when the next train will arrive as you’re standing on the platform, or your favorite team’s score while they’re playing. And the best part? All of this happens automatically. Cards appear throughout the day at the moment you need them.

I urge you to give Google Now a try, particularly if you already use Google searches like search and Gmail, because it’s awesome. In fact, I cited Google Now as one of the reasons why I ditched my iPhone 5 for a Nexus 4 earlier this year.
