Wacom has announced a new baby Cintiq graphics tablet. The new 13-inch model joins the plus-sized 22 and 24-inchers in the lineup, and will let travelling designers and artists work on the go.
The Cintiq is Wacom’s line of pen-driven graphics tablets which combine a screen with a pressure-sensitive surface. These days, they seem kinda pedestrian thanks to the saturation of amazing touch-screens in the world, but not long ago the Cintiq was the hot gadget for graphic artists.
The new tablet hooks up to a Mac or PC and lets you paint on its 13-inch, 1,920 x 1,080 screen with a stylus that resisters 2,048 levels of pressure. Compare that to your iPad, which can register precisely two levels: on and off.
It’s not cheap. Or rather, it fits right into Wacom’s own lineup, price-wise, at $1,000. It’ll be available mid-April. Or, if it goes like most Wacom launches, some time after that.
