Fingers, A ‘Handy’ Way To Cut Cable Clutter

Fingers is a concept design, but it’s so simple and clever, and so easy to make for yourself with just a piece of stiff card and a pair of scissors, that it seems worth taking a look. It’s yet another desk-tidying cable manager, but you’re going to love it, I promise.

The idea behind Fingers is that it has, well, fingers. Plastic fingers which let your cables move easily between their non-existent knuckles yet which stop the plugs from dropping through. The concept also comes with a bunch of tags which will let you keep track of which cable is which, but these are also easily recreated in our ghetto version, by using masking tape and a marker.

If I need to explain how you might take a piece of heavy card or plywood and cut grooves into it, then you should probably be getting an adult to help you out anyway. I have greater ambitions for this project, though, which means cutting the grooves into the edge of the desk itself. As this involves marble, I actually don’t have any idea of where to start. But no matter: my cables can’t fall to the floor any more than a single hair can wriggle its way free of a dreadlock.
