These days my desk is my lap. My work machine is an iPad, and my iMac is hanging on the wall, acting as little more than a BitTorrent machine and photo store. I still have a desk though, but it is useless for most of the year thanks to a marble top which sucks heat from my hands and wrists like a prisoner sucks on a cigarette after a week in solitary confinement.
Fortunately, there’s an accessory for people who – like me – love both felted wool, and their carpal tunnels. It’s the Desk-Pad Classic, and I will probably have ordered one by the time you finish reading this post.
The Desk-Pad is pretty much a sheet of heavy, floppy felt which sits on your desk and keeps your hands warm and toasty. There’s a leather strap at the side to keep papers from flying away (or to wrangle coiled cables) and the whole thing, promises the blurb, acts as a giant mouse mat.
Given that almost nobody uses a mouse with a ball anymore, this is somewhat moot, but it does act as a reminder that you won’t be able to use the Magic Trackpad because its feet will sink into the plush pile.
The price of this handsome desk accessory is €40 ($52), or and it comes in any of 15 colors. You can also pick a bigger €50 versions if you have a particularly big desk, or just really, really long arms.
Oh, will you look at that. I just ordered on. Size normal, in the “classic” colorway.
