If there’s a video game character that deserves his own endless running game, it’s Sonic the Hedgehog; he’s been dashing through crazy worlds since the early ’90s, long before titles like Temple Run even entered development. And today Sega finally made it happen.
Sonic Dash is a brand new title “coming soon” to iOS.
The title will be developed by Hardlight Studio — the team behind Sonic Jump, an addictive Doodle Jump clone. But rather than being an endless jumping game, it’s an endless running game, just like Temple Run or the many others that have graced the App Store since Temple Run became so popular.
The game hasn’t exactly been a big secret; it was teased on Twitter a number of times by Hardlight last week. But today Sega finally made it official in a post on its blog:
Our hero will be doing what he does best — making a fast and frenzied 3D dash through stunning stages, as he navigates over, around, and through interminable dangers. Challenge your friends and compete on leaderboards — you may know who the fastest is, but, for how long?
Sonic Dash will be a 3D game, unlike traditional Sonic titles, and as you’d expect, it’ll offer Game Center leaderboards that’ll let you compete for the highest score among your friends and other gamers all over the world. Neither Sega or Hardlight have given a more specific release date, but it shouldn’t be too long before the title hits the App Store.
