We’ve heard very little about the next-gen iPhone 5S, other than that the device is expected to feature a better camera. Some have speculated that the successor to the iPhone 5 will also come in more than two colors and maybe even have a fingerprint sensor. An iPhone 5S would assumedly ship sometime around the fall if Apple sticks to its track record.
Even less has been revealed about the fifth-gen iPad, apart from some unverified case leaks. Apple has always announced new iPads around the spring, but the iPad mini was released last fall.
Now a new report has claimed that the iPhone 5S is on track for an August release. The iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 are expected to arrive around April.
Rene Ritchie of iMore reports:
iMore has learned that Apple is planning the release of the iPhone 5S for this summer, currently for August. Next generation iPads, presumably the iPad 5 and potentially the iPad mini 2, may also debut as soon as this April.
The iPhone 5S has the “same basic design as the iPhone 5, with a more advanced processor and a improved camera,” according to the report. Apple allegedly wants to “raise the bar in terms of iPhone optics” this time around.
iMore also mentions an April timeframe for an iPad(s) announcement. The report mentions the plausibility of Apple releasing the next version of the 10-inch iPad and the next iPad mini with a possible Retina display. The fourth-gen iPad was released as a minor update to the third-gen model in November 2012.
iMore has a proven track record when it comes to Apple rumors. The site correctly predicted the Lightning connector last year and several Apple event dates, but it has also had some reports that have turned out to be slightly off.
Previous rumors have said that Apple will use the same thin-film touchscreen in the iPad mini for the iPad 5 to help make it thinner and lighter. The iPad 5 is also expected to take many design cues from the iPad mini with smaller bezels and a slimmer profile.
