Have you ever tried to do any serious videography with an iPad? I don’t recommend it casually, but the iPad can be a great HD video tool, combining high resolution video capture abilities with a large screen for monitoring. Connecting it to a tripod, however, can be a trial.
SerialKickers aim to solve this problem with a new product for iPad, the ArchMount, an ultra-portable mounting system that will let you attach your iPad to a camera tripod for use in video, tele-prompter, or music applications.
The ArchMount consists of a single molded piece of non-abrasive, strong plastic that connects to a large iPad (not the mini, yet) via a couple of stretchy bungie-cord-like straps and a couple of smaller sized plastic pieces. It’s a lovely design, making the ArchMount easy to carry in a pocket or small bag with your iPad, without adding much bulk. The central piece has a standard tripod threaded mounting hole to make it super easy to connect to any still or video camera mount with a 1/4-20 tripod screw mount.
The team points out that in addition to the intended videography application, the ArchMount can be used to mount an iPad for tabletop photo scanning, tele-prompting, script reading, and even displaying sheet music. They’re even making a 90˚ mounting bracket which connects to the ArchMount, making this an even more versatile product. If you pledge $34 or more, you’ll get the ArchMount along with the mounting bracket, which seems like a pretty good deal.
Be sure to check out the Kickstarter Project page and watch the video, as it gets pretty funny near the end. There’s also a Facebook page for the ArchMount to keep tabs on the product, as well.
