Shortly after the evasi0n jailbreak made its much-anticipated debut earlier this week, Apple pushed out its iOS 6.1.1 beta to registered developers. We suspected that the new release would patch the exploits that evasi0n used to hack iOS devices, but fortunately for the many millions of people enjoying its benefits, that’s not the case. At least not yet.
“6.1.1 beta (10B311) does not fix the jailbreak,” pod2g wrote on Twitter. “It’ll probably happen in a future revision. Don’t upgrade though, evasi0n won’t let you jb.”
But don’t get too excited just yet. Don’t forget that yesterday’s iOS 6.1.1 release was the very first beta. There will probably be a handful before iOS 6.1.1 actually gets released, and so it’s completely possible that Apple will patch the exploits before then.
All we can do for now is keep out fingers crossed. There isn’t too much to the iOS 6.1.1 release from what we can tell — just some enhancements to Maps for users in Japan. But it would be nice if jailbreakers weren’t stuck on iOS 6.1.
The evasi0n jailbreak has been hugely popular since its release on Monday. Jay Freeman, the creator of Cydia, later revealed that his data showed the tool had been downloaded more than 800,000 times within the first six hours of availability. Within 24 hours, Cydia logged more than 1.7 million devices that had been jailbroken with evasi0n.
