Little Inferno For iPad Released, Burns Its Way Up The iTunes Charts

From the makers of World of Goo and Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure comes a brand new iPad game, Little Inferno. The game released just two days ago, and is already the number four top paid iPad app on the US iTunes Store. That’s no small achievement, but neither is this iPad-only game.

Spend a few minutes with Little Inferno and, while recognizing a similar vibe to World of Goo, you’ll start to understand that there’s something dark, twisted, and incredibly hilarious happening here.

From the first launch of the game, you’ll meet Miss Nancy, an insanely cheerful lady that guides you through your first experiences with the Little Inferno Entertainment Device, a fireplace that lets you burn all your toys. She cheerfully gives you a catalog when you burn through your first bunch of playthings, giving you even more stuff to set ablaze within the fireplace.

Soon after, you’ll get mail from a little girl named Sugar Plumps, who is your very best friend and neighbor. She’ll send you hints, request items, and add to the general creepiness of the game as she sends you message after message.

The whole game reeks of satire, with coins to earn, new catalogs to earn via finding new combinations of things to burn, and a bizarre social network-style friendship with the girl next door. The deves swear it’s not a critique of social games, however. “Although Little Inferno has a lot of fun flamboyantly using social/casual game mechanics,” they write on their blog page, “the game is not mean to be a mean spirited attack on other games. In fact, a couple of us here at Tomorrow Corporation actually enjoy games like Tiny Tower, and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic! (seriously, try it).” So, they say, Little Inferno is more of a fun poke at the popularity of social/casual games, rather than the point of it.

While the game has a price point higher than many iOS games at $4.99, you’re getting a console-quality experience with amazing artwork, a fantastic soundtrack (also available on the Tomorrow Corporation website for free), and a delightful game with a twisted, black heart. What more can you ask for from your five bucks?
