The Only Booth Babe At Macworld Is Made Of Cardboard [Macworld 2013]

macworldbugSAN FRANCISCO, MACWORLD/iWORLD 2013 – The Age of Scantly Clad Booth Babes might be at an end.

There  are no booth babes at Macworld.

We walked onto the expo floor expecting our retinas to be attacked by skin, cleavage, thighs, and a thick aroma of sleaze, but there’s none to be found.

The only “booth babe” we could find is this cardboard cutout of some blonde advertising an iPhone necklace/case thingy. Surely this can’t be the only booth babe at Macworld, but after some heavy duty searching, we’re happy to report that it is.

Even though a few booth babes were out in full effect at CES, there is a serious dearth of them here at MacWorld.

Perhaps it’s in response to the boothbabegate controversy at Macworld last year, and the hullabaloo recently about the booth babe problem that’s plagued trade shows for decades. Reporter Connie Guglielmo of Forbes even started a petition to have them banned from CES.

She’s not alone. There’s been a growing chorus of anti booth babe sentiment recently in the tech press. Even a blog as male oriented as Gizmodo has called it out.

Have exhibitors woken up with a profound desire to no longer blatantly objectify women? We doubt it. We’ll ask around, starting with MacKeeper, which had a half-a-dozen scantily-clad babes roaming the floor last year. (See our great report on what it’s actually like to be a booth babe).

Maybe Macworld is leading the charge into the post booth babe world, where sex no longer sells product?
