The upcoming evasi0n jailbreak that will will allow users to hack iOS devices running Apple’s latest iOS 6.1 firmware has been completed for Mac and Windows ahead of its public release. The team behind it the exploit confirmed the update on Twitter this morning. All that remains is the Linux client and “some testing.”

With the Mac and Windows clients complete, the evasi0n jailbreak is 68% done, according to its official website. That means the evad3rs — the team behind it — are making great progress, and that the software’s public debut shouldn’t be too far away.

MuscleNerd, a member of the team, recently teased a Super Bowl Sunday release on Twitter, suggesting the hack could be available on February 3. However, it’s still yet to enter the private testing phase, so a release so soon could be a little optimistic.

If no bugs are found during that private testing phase, then a Sunday release could be possible. But we’ll have to keep our fingers crossed.

The evasi0n jailbreak will be compatible with most iOS devices — including the iPhone 5 and the iPad mini — running iOS 6.0 to 6.1. It’s being developed for Mac OS 10.5 and above, Windows XP and above, and Linux x86/x86_64. The only thing you’ll have to do is plug your device and allow the tool to work its magic. The whole process is expected to take just five minutes.

We’ll be sure to let you know as soon as evasi0n drops, of course, so stay tuned for more updated in the coming days.
