Currently, the only Apple-made game listed in the Cupertino, Calif. company’s App Store is Texas Hold’em. That may change as Apple reportedly begins searching for “a passionate” gamer able to help design for the iPhone and iPod touch. The job search would fit Apple’s vision of gaming as the next arena for its handheld devices.

In September, Apple unveiled two new iPod touchs, each with beefier hardware for gaming. To reinforce the importance of gaming, the company labels the iPod touch as the “funnest iPod ever.”

The potential full-time Apple developer would be tasked with preparing “interactive multimedia experiences” and need 3 to 4 years of video game development experience along with producing “at least one AAA title,” according to the recent job listing.

Nintendo, maker of the popular DS handheld and Wii console has seen its profits shrink as Apple presses harder for part of the gaming market. The company saw the latest quarter’s profits fall 52 percent as the iPhone and iPod touch make inroads into gaming. In response, Nintendo has unveiled the Nintendo Dsi LL with larger screen and other features designed to separate it from the iPhone.
