Even though many people idolize Steve Jobs and the role he played in the tech industry, his dietary habits are not for the faint of heart.

While preparing to play Steve Jobs in his new movie JOBSAshton Kutcher decided he should try to walk, talk and even eat like Steve Jobs to fully embrace the role. It sounds like a good idea, except following Steve Jobs’ diet gave Kutcher’s pancreas all sorts of problems and he wound up in the hospital two days before the movie started.

Steve Jobs was a known fruitarian who, in his younger years, believed that if he only ate apples his body wouldn’t produce body odor. Ashton followed Steve and only ate fruit, nuts and seeds for a few weeks, but then his pancreas went crazy on him and he was hospitalized.

Steve Jobs died of pancreatic cancer in October 2011.

In an interview with USA Today, Kutcher told the publication:

“First of all, the fruitarian diet can lead to like severe issues. I went to the hospital like two days before we started shooting the movie. I was like doubled over in pain.

“My pancreas levels were completely out of whack. It was really terrifying … considering everything.”

Kutcher recovered from his pancreatic problems and was able to finish filming the movie, which is set to be released in April. JOBS premiered at the Sundance Film Festival Friday night to mixed reviews, but most were impressed with Kutcher’s portrayal of Steve Jobs.
