Princess Di would have approved of Knomo's elegant cases.

It’s the new year, so it’s out with the old and in with new cases!

I’ve got two new high-end cases from the London Company Knomo — a leather snap-on for the iPhone 5 and a leather folio for the iPad Mini.

As soon as the samples arrived, I put them on my iPad and iPhone — and they haven’t come off since.

Knomo’s iPhone 5 Leather Case is a handsome case with a smooth, high-quality black leather back and side accents in Kelly green.

The case it’s well made and high quality. It’s thin but sturdy. The case is made to protect the iPhone without adding too much bulk. It’s molded from shock-resistant plastic with a soft TPU plastic lip that secures the phone.

I didn’t test to see if the case allowed the phone to be charged in a dock with the new Lightning connector — there aren’t really any docks widely available on the market yet.

For someone who uses my iPhone 24/7 and has been known to drop it occasionally, it’s held up nicely. It still looks great and I regularly gets compliments on it.

The iPhone 5 Case is available for $36.00 in two colors — black and burnt ochre.

Knomo’s iPad mini case is a dream.

I’m also a fan of Knomo’s iPad Mini Folio.

The iPad Mini Folio is fashionable yet sturdy. The rear case is made from tough rubberized plastic. It adds bulk, but not too much. Some people object to a cover for the mini because it detracts from the whole point of the wee iPad — how thin and light it is. But I find Knomo’s case doesn’t add too much bulk.

The front cover is made from full-grain smooth leather. Again, it’s well made and high quality.

The cover folds back and can be tucked into a raised position for typing on a table or propping in your lap for reading or viewing movies.

There are magnets in the flap when that wakes the iPad Mini when its opened and puts it to sleep when closed.

As with all Knomo products, the case is printed with a unique ID number to help you recover it if it gets lost. It’s a simple design but looks classy and fits extremely well.

Like the iPhone 5 Leather Case, the iPad Mini Folio Case is tough. If the past month of use is any indication, it should easily last the lifetime of the iPad.

The iPad Mini Folio Case is available for $69.00 in three colors — black, teaberry (red) and cognac (brown).
