The Cave is a brand new adventure game from legendary developer, Ron Gilbert (Monkey Island, Maniac Mansion) and award-winning Double Fine Productions (Psychonauts, Brütal Legend). Choose a team of three from an available seven differently-equipped and skilled adventurers to descend into the dark, mysterious, and promisingly twisted depths of The Cave, now out on Steam for Mac and PC for a gloriously affordable $14.99.

The Cave promises to be more than just a point and click adventure, with a whimsical art style and intelligent, dark humor that many gamers will recall from the earlier Gilbert creations like Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion. The game’s conceit involves a mysterious talking cave that lures bands of adventurers and treasure seekers down into its murky depths to make them learn something about themselves in the process. All seven characters have different personalities and special skills, as well as their own dark, secret reasons for visiting The Cave in the first place.

Choosing your band of three to enter The Cave will allow you to explore the different character storylines, and locations like an underground amusement park, a medieval castle, and a nuclear missile silo. You’ll be able to switch characters on the fly, using those special talents to solve the puzzles along the way. There’s even local co-op, so you can play with friends playing as the other characters

The game launched today on Steam, and is available for Mac, Linux, and Windows for $14.99. It is also available on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and the Wii U. It looks like a ton of fun on whatever platform you choose, but of course you’ll choose Mac, right?
