Alt Photo, A Great Film-Emulator For iPhone, Goes Free

Alien Skin makes the human-like disguises that the lizard creatures in “V” used to pass themselves off as humans, and… Kidding! Alien Skin makes high-end Photoshop plugins and Mac photo-processing software. It also makes an iPhone app called Alt Photo, which distills the features of its desktop app Exposure into an iPhone-sized package.
And now it is free.
There are far too many photo-processing apps for iOS, but Alt Photo is worth a look because it actually gives great results. In there you’ll find the usual cross-processing effects, frames and grungifying filters, but like the masterful Snapseed it uses gestures to tweak the effects, and the results really are great.
The effects are based on the looks of actual film stock, and you can either swipe between them for instant previews or “zoom” out to a grid view showing smaller version of the effects, all applied to your current photo.
You can also tweak the brightness, the strength of the effect and the border (the frames are actually pretty lame), and you can either shoot photos right in the app or edit pictures from your camera roll.
The price reduction has been made to turn the app into a promo for the desktop Exposure software, but you don’t have to worry about that – just go grab it and fancy up your photos today.
