Hoping to get your hands on a new 27-inch iMac model, with its delightfully thin flat panel display and Fusion Drive goodness? Well, if you order now, you’ll have to wait up to four weeks for it to ship, as seen at the Apple Store website.
It appears that Apple hasn’t been able to manage to overcome its supply constraints, which we reported back in November, to make enough of these glorious machines to meet demand.
The problem could be the new manufacturing process needed to bond the larger display to the thinner case, as the larger 27-inch iMac model shows the longest delay. The 21.5-inch model iMac is showing as only needing 7-10 business days to ship.
The new iMac models are looking slick, with a better, less reflective display due to the new manufacturing process and the new Fusion Drive technology, which fuses the speed of a SSD device with the higher capacity of a traditional hard drive. Only the 27-inch model iMac is able to have its RAM upgraded, which isn’t likely to be a cause of manufacturing delays, but may be another reason for higher consumer demand, besides how incredibly powerful and thin these machines are for all their decent price point.
According to tech site, Electronista, the 27-inch iMac models were listed before the holidays as shipping in January. It sadly looks now that they will be more likely to ship by the beginning of February.
