Tumblr Finally Releases An Official iPad App

Tumblr on the iPad

I’ve had a blog on Tumblr for years, and I’ve never been able to really get into using it on my iPhone until recently. A platform’s mobile presence is so important, and it’s been nice to see Tumblr work on drastically improving its mobile web and iPhone apps in recent months.

For some unfathomable reason, Tumblr has never had an official iPad app—well, until today. It just went live in the App Store.

Tumblr for iOS comes decked out with everything from Markdown support to animated GIFs. It’s built on native code and everything feels fast. You can browse your feed, explore different tags, interact with your own account, and of course post stuff. The app has the persistent sidebar that seems to be all the rage these days with prominent apps like Path and Facebook. Tapping the post button brings up a cool, radial menu for the different post types.

Now that I can browse Tumblr in a native app on the iPad, I’ll probably start actually using it a lot more. The web app was tolerable, but this official iPad app will be sticking around on my Home screen.

Tumblr for iOS is available in the App Store for free as a universal download.
