Penny Arcade The Game: Gamers vs. Evil is a deck-building card game published by Cryptozoic Entertainment. Today, the company announced that a stand alone iOS game app based on the deck-building game becomes available tomorrow, December 19. It features characters from the Penny Arcade comic, including Gabe and Tycho, and will launch at a $4.99 price point. The iOS game was developed by PlayDek Games.

“The iOS version of Penny Arcade The Game: Gamers vs. Evil has been a long time coming because, as with everything we do, we wanted to make sure it was a great game and true to the brand before we put it out,” said Scott Gaeta, chief operating officer for Cryptozoic. “We really appreciate all the hard work Playdek put into translating the physical game to iOS, and keeping all the fun of Penny Arcade in it.”

There are three modes to play the game, with full asynchronous turn-based mode for up to four players, local pass and paly multiplayer, or single player modes with AI opponents. You’ll battle, card-style, with enemies like Dark Tycho, PAX Pox, and other evil opponents. There’ll be an online rematch option, a way to move between multiple games at once, a card gallery, and a tutorial/rule book.

I’ve been wanting to play the card game since I saw it at PAX this year, but I haven’t had the time or the group of friends to play it with. An iOS version will let me jump in and check it out, without having to purchase the whole cardboard card set, though I still may if the planets align.

Penny Arcade The Game: Gamers vs. Evil is available on the iTunes App Store starting tomorrow (or tonight, if you’re in New Zealand).
