Casio has announced its new G-Shock GB6900AA wristwatch which syncs with your iPhone over Bluetooth to bring notifications to your wrist. It will notify you of incoming calls, text messages, and emails, and it’ll alert you when your iPhone goes out of range to prevent it from being misplaced. And if you do lose your device, the G-Shock will help you find it.
In addition to basic alert functions, which vibrate when you receive new notifications, the G-Shock GB6900AA has a handy Find Me feature that will help you find a missing iPhone. Although it can’t show you the handset’s location on a map, it can force your device to sound an alarm and vibrate until it’s been found (or its battery runs out).
Another nifty feature is that the watch automatically syncs time and date information with your iPhone. So if go on holiday to another country and your iPhone changes time automatically based on your location, the G-Shock will, too.
“G-Shock continues to be a leader in cutting-edge technology for timepieces,” said Shigenori Itoh, Chairman and CEO of Casio’s Timepiece Division. “With the release of the Bluetooth LE Smart Watch collection, we are pushing the boundaries of inspired timepieces for the business savvy, technology conscious consumer.”
The watch takes advantage of the low power consumption of Bluetooth Low Energy technology to provide you with the same battery life as a conventional wristwatch, using the same button cell battery. It’s expected to last around two years based on 12 hours of Bluetooth activity per day.
The G-Shock GB6900AA comes in black, gray blue, brown, and white. All models offer shock resistance, 200 meters water resistance, an LED super illuminator, five daily alarms, a stopwatch, a countdown timer, mute functionality, and more. It will be available this month from a number of retailers across the U.S. priced at $180.
That’s a lot cheaper than some iPhone-friendly wristwatches we’ve seen.
