If you haven’t gotten enough of Robert Kirkman’s uber-popular Walking Dead series, you’ll love this. On his Twitter feed today, Kirkman posted a link to the the website for new, also episodic, iOS game, The Walking Dead: Assault.

It looks much more like the comic than the recently finished season one of Telltale’s The Walking Dead game, and allows you to play as one of the characters from the original series of Eisner Award-winning comic books, published by Image Comics.

The first episode is called “Days Gone Bye,” and starts at the beginning of the storyline when Rick wakes up in the hospital from issue #1 of the books.

The game is universal, and will work on the new iPhone 5 Retina display as well as all other iOS devices. It’s available for the low introductory price of $1.99 during launch week. The episode’s events run you through Alanta and the camp invasion that changes everything for the group of survivors. You can play as Rick, Glenn, Shane, Carl (get in the house, Carl!), Andrea, Lori, and more (I’m hoping to play Dale) in teams of four characters at a time, hunting for supplies and weapons upgrades. Just be sure to survive through hordes of walkers while watching each others’ backs against the still living.

Completing bonus objectives in each level will unlock special content, like artwork and wallpapers for your iOS device, behind the scenes trivia, and more, including Game Center Achievements.

New episodes are on deck, including “Safety Behind Bars,” which must be the era of the prison, and “Fear the Hunters,” though we don’t have any details on when these will release or what the price will be. The developers promise characters like Michonne, Tyreese, the Governor, and some great new weapons along the way.
