Redbox Instant by Verizon, the Netflix competitor by, well, Verizon, just became a bit more real today, as details released onto the web.

According to GigaOm, the streaming video service will charge customers as little as $6 per month, have apps for Android, iOS, and Xbox 360, and will go live as early as December 17.

The service itself is currently in private beta, but the details, for some reason, are publicly available on the web. Those help pages, originally found by GigaOm’s Janko Roettgers, let some of the details about the new streaming service out into the public domain, though of course the details and change at any point.

First up, subscriptions look to start at $6 per month for unlimited access to the videos on the Redbox service. While the catalog seems to be smaller than rival Netflix, but does have some that are on both services, like Thor, Killers, Rango, and Iron Man 2.

A second subscription option, shown at $8 per month, adds four monthly, expiring Redbox DVD rentals, redeemable at Redbox kiosks everywhere. DVDs will be reserved from the website as well as the mobile apps. There is also video on demand rentals, some of which can be downloaded to mobile devices for offline viewing. The rentals themselves start at $0.99 and up.

Subscribers will be able to access Redbox Instant on the web, Android and iOS devices, the Xbox 360 and certain Samsung TVs and Blu-ray players, up to five devices per account. There’s no mention of Sony’ Playstation 3 here, but it would make sense, the console being an internet-connected Blue-ray player and all.

The date of December 17th comes from a bit in the help section telling Beta testers that DVDs won’t be able to accessed ia subscriptions at some kiosks until December 17th.

Whether this all holds true when the service, previously announced to go live before the end of 2012, goes live. These details are exciting, however, and we look forward to having another option for unlimited streaming of videos and TV shows.
