Just a few weeks ago T-Mobile’s COO said that there’s no way that T-Mobile would ever be able to get the iPhone because it’s just too damn expensive.
Things may have changed quickly though as a new report from Merrill Lynch is claiming that Deutsche Telecome will announce a deal to bring the iPhone to their U.S. subsidiary, T-Mobile, next week.
As reported by Philip Elmer-DeWitt at Fortune, Merrill Lynch’s Scott Craig reported today that “speculation is heightening” on the T-Mobile iPhone deal. T-Mobile has recently beefed up its iPhone-compatible HSPA+ network in 10 metropolitan areas.
Cutting a deal with T-Mobile would give Apple access to 98% of the U.S. post-paid market and 75% of the total number of subscribers in the U.S. Craig estimates that a T-Mobile deal would add about 4 million new iPhone sales for Apple in 2013.
