In a new interview with the BBC, Tony Fadell, a former Apple executive who is often referred to as the “father of the iPod,” insists Scott Forstall “got what he deserved” when he was fired by Apple back in October. Although he refused to speak about his relationship with the former iOS chief, Fadell says the decision to let him go was completely “justified.”

Fadell obviously felt uncomfortable talking about his relationship with Forstall during his interview with the BBC’s Leo Kelion. But it seems clear that the two didn’t get on well. Fadell believes Apple “is in a great place” now that Forstall’s gone, and notes that “people were cheering in Cupertino when that event happened”

Fadell also talks about the iPod, and his latest project, the Nest home thermostat. Check out the interview below.

Fadell left Apple in 2008, and his departure came as a surprise to many. Like Forstall, he was tipped as a future success to Steve Jobs, Apple’s co-founder and then-CEO.
