Facebook has just pushed out a big update to its iOS app in the App Store. Version 5.1 brings a number of improvements, including a new interface for messaging friends, the ability to upload multiple photos at once, and Facebook Gifts.

Now it’s easier to chat with your friends and share multiple photos.
• Swipe left anywhere in the app to quickly see who’s available and send a message
• Add friends you message most to the top of your Favorites
• Share multiple photos fast
• Give real gifts to your friends using Facebook Gifts (US-only)
• When sending messages, see who’s active so you and your friends know how soon to expect a reply

A new chat button in the top right of the app triggers a window with your Facebook favorites, a.k.a. the people you message and stalk the most. You can drag and pin people around to create a list of who you want quick access to from your news feed.

Like Facebook’s standalone Camera app, you can now upload multiple photos at once. You can even crop and apply Instagram-like filters to pics from your Camera Roll as you upload.

Users in the U.S. have access to Gifts on iOS now, a Facebook feature many probably don’t know exists. You can send gifts like Starbucks gift cards or even donate money towards a charity. Gift buttons will appear on certain Facebook pages as the feature takes off.

You can download the free Facebook 5.1 update in the App Store now.

Update: Many of you are having trouble logging in after the update, so proceed at your own risk.
