QuickerTek’s MacBook Air Battery, Now With MagSafe 2

The MagSafe 2 power plug is so intent on escaping from its socket that it doesn’t seem a great idea to hook it up to a portable battery, but if you need the extra power, you need the extra power. And right now pretty much the only way to get it is to grab one of QuickerTek’s MacBook Air batteries.

It seems hard to believe that people preferred removable batteries for their notebooks. You had to put the Mac to sleep while you swapped them. You had to then put the dead battery back in to charge it, and of course swap in the second battery to fill that up too.

The modern alternative is to just carry an external battery which can be plugged into the MacBook whenever you like, without sleeping or even closing the lid, and plug it into a wall wherever you like.

The QuickerTek MBA battery, now with MagSafe 2, also packs a 2-Amp USB port for charging your iDevice.

It doesn’t come cheap, though: the MFC10711, as it is affectionately known, will cost a whopping $450, and weighs in at 2.2 pounds. So no, you won’t be tossing this into you bag every time you leave home, but for people who still insist on using MacBooks instead of iPads for their work, that extra weight and cost will be easily justified.
