Infinity Blade: Dungeons Won’t Be Released Until 2013

If we were to name our most anticipated iOS game, it would easily be Epic’s upcoming Infinty Blade: Dungeons, a spin-off of the popular franchise that takes Infinity Blade’s existing world and makes a Diablo-like action RPG out of it. Epic and Apple have been showing off Dungeons since May, and we even thought there was a good chance it would be released after the iPhone 5 keynote.

It wasn’t, and unfortunately, it doesn’t look like it will be released after next week’s iPad mini keynote either. In fact, it won’t even ship this year.

John Paczkowski at All Things D has heard the sad news straight from Epic Games, who told him:

“Ever since the talented team at Impossible Studios got their hands on “Infinity Blade: Dungeons,” they’ve been busy adding their great ideas to the game,” spokesman Wes Phillips told AllThingsD. “There was also the matter of getting the Impossible Studios team up and running with desks, chairs, staplers and computers. The logistics of a new studio and implementing all these great ideas required a little extra time, so Infinity Blade: Dungeons will hit iOS in 2013.”

That’s a huge bummer, although come to think of it, I still haven’t beaten Infinity Blade II. And at least Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition is due next month.

I seem to recall them saying that it would be available “by the end of the month” or “by next month” or something to that effect at the “new iPad” keynote way back in March. Talk about missing your deadline.

“Somewhere later this year”, if I remember correctly.
