Give Your A4-Powered iOS Device iOS 6’s 3D Flyover And Turn-By-Turn [Jailbreak]

By

It could be some time before you can rely on Apple's new Maps app.
Want this on your iPhone 4? Now you can.

While Apple’s new Maps app has received a lot of criticism since its debut last month, it does offer a number of nifty features that weren’t available in iOS 5, including 3D Flyover and voice-guided, turn-by-turn navigation. However, these are features that are only available on the latest devices, including the iPhone 4S, the iPhone 5, the new iPad, and the fifth-generation iPod touch.

At least that’s the case if you handset isn’t jailbroken. If it is, you can now get these features on A4-powered devices like the iPhone 4, and the fourth-generation iPod touch thanks to a new tweak called ‘Unlock iOS 6 Maps’.

Created by Ryan Petrich, the developer behind a whole host of jailbreak tweaks — like DietBar, AntiTint, and LiveClock — Unlock iOS 6 Maps quickly unlocks 3D Flyover and turn-by-turn navigation on unsupported devices. All you need to do is install it.

There is one thing you should bear in mind before installing, however: Apple decided not to support these features on A4-powered iOS devices for a reason — they’re not really powered enough to handle them. While they do work, installing this tweak can make your Maps app pretty sluggish — as noted in the demonstration video below from the guys at AppAdvice.

If that doesn’t put you off, you can download Unlock iOS 6 Maps from Cydia now — and it’s completely free.

I must be missing something here. iOS6 isn’t jailbroken yet, so how can you have a JB tweak for an iOS6-only app? Someone please enlighten me…

Scott, it’s a tethered jailbreak through redsn0w. It was one of the first tweaks I downloaded. XD
