G15, The Superstitious New Compact From Canon

Canon's other new camera today is the G15, successor to the G12 and flagship compact in the Canon range. The big changes are the lens, which retains its zoom range but gets a faster maximum aperture of ƒ1.8, and the rear LCD panel, which no longer flips out but now sports a higher 920,000 resolution.

Features

5x Optical Zoom (28mm-140mm), f/1.8 (W) – f/2.8 (T)

12.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor combined with Canon's DIGIC 5 Image Processor low-light performance up to ISO 12800

1080p video in stereo sound with a dedicated movie button; video functions include fine detail movie processing, zoom while shooting, HDMI output.

High Speed AF greatly improves focus speed and High-Speed Burst HQ allows for continuous capture at a maximum of 10 frames.

Intelligent IS automatically chooses from six different modes to optimize image stabilization for the shooting condition.

3.0-inch LCD with 922,000 dots, plus an Optical Viewfinder.

And the name? Canon presumably missed out G14 because that's the proposed name of the G14 Nations group (it did the same thing when it jumped from G7 to G9).

And I guess it missed out G13 because 13 is like, totally unlucky.
