iPhone 5 Pre-Orders Break AT&T Sales Record Making It The Fastest-Selling iPhone Ever

The iPhone 5 is going to be huge.

With Apple’s initial iPhone 5 pre-order stock gone within just one hour on Friday, we knew the company’s sixth-generation smartphone was going to be huge. Even Apple itself has said that it has been “blown away” by the demand. It’s little surprise to hear that the iPhone 5 has broken AT&T’s sale record, then, making it the fastest-selling iPhone the company has ever sold.

And since AT&T has offered every iPhone since the original iPhone back in 2007, that means the iPhone 5 is the fastest-selling iPhone period. The carrier hasn’t provided us with any specific figures unfortunately, but it did provide a statement, which read:

AT&T set a sales record with iPhone 5 over the weekend, making it the fastest-selling iPhone the company has ever offered. Customers ordered more iPhones from AT&T than any previous model both on its first day of pre-orders and over the weekend.

iPhone 5 is still available for pre-order at www.att.com/iphone and will be available in AT&T retail stores beginning at 8am local time on Friday, September 21.

Apple has sold out of every iPhone it has released since the iPhone 3G, and so we didn’t expect the iPhone 5 to be any different. We were surprised to see shipping estimates slip so quickly when pre-orders went live on September 14, however. If the company follows its traditional iPhone schedule, we should see a press release today containing actual pre-order figures.
