There are a bunch of services which will take your old films, movies and even videocassettes and scan/digitize them, but YesVideo is not only pretty convenient, but also claims to be the first to modernize your analog memories and store them in the cloud.
Sure, the company will still send you a comedy “archival” DVD so you can put your hot coffee on your desk without leaving a ring, but now you can also store an unlimited amount of photos and videos online and ready to share.
I have been toying with the idea of getting all my old negatives scanned, but I grew up in the 1980s and am terrified that people might see me in knitted ties and fluorescent-green and pink socks.
For the rest of you, YesVideo allows you to drop your old media off at various real stores (Target, Ritz Camera and various drug stores) and – around three weeks later – you’ll get a DVD (ha!) and the keys to your new online media cache.
From here you can share to FaceBook and most other social networks, or just browse the memories from the comfort of your iDevice.
Pricing runs at $20 for a videocassette, $0.49 per image for photos and negatives and $0.18 per foot for movie film. You can even (somewhat inexplicably) get your camera’s memory cards transferred onto DVD. And the online storage component is “free,” or rather built in to these high prices.
