When Twitter released its new guidelines last week, it quickly became clear that third-party clients would be hit hardest by the company’s latest rules. However, it seems third-party developers aren’t quite as concerned as the rest of us. Tapbots quickly confirmed that Tweebot development wouldn’t change, and now Iconfactory has confirmed that it will continue development on an “all-new” Twitterrific as planned — unfazed by Twitter’s new rules.
The company has been working on a major update to Twitterrific for some time, one that will not only deliver new features and improvements, but will also comply with Twitter’s new guidelines. In a statement on its website, Iconfactory wrote:
For the past several months, we’ve been working on a major update to Twitterrific that we’re very excited about. There were concerns that this new version might end up on the cutting room floor prior to Twitter’s announcement, but after reviewing the new restrictions and speaking with the team at Twitter, we’re pleased to report that our development plans remain unchanged.
We’re re-doubling our efforts to bring you an all-new version of Twitterrific: one that complies with Twitter’s new guidelines and makes reading and posting to Twitter even easier and more fun.
Unfortunately, Iconfactory doesn’t go into detail regarding what the update will bring, so the changes it is making to Twitterrific are still a mystery. But it does promise that we will hear more “in the days and weeks ahead.” At least we do know that when the update is ready, Twitter won’t be killing it.
