QuickDraw Fast-Changing Belt-Mounted Lens Bayonets Are Totally Awesome [Kickstarter]

I imagine that every SLR user ever will want the QuickDraw.

QuickDraw is about as apt a name for a gadget as any we’ve ever seen. And the why-didn’t-I-think-of-that obviousness extends to its function: Quickdraw is a lens bayonet that hangs on your belt and lets you clip any spare lenses around your waist, read to for – you guessed it – a quick draw.

It gets even better when you see the video (which is pretty entertaining in itself). The QuickDraw is made up of two sections. A strong plastic belt-clip and an aluminum bayonet which hinges off it. When empty, the bayonet plate sits up vertically, and you just clip the lens in – one handed. The hinge then folds down and the lens hangs facing the ground, ready to be grabbed when you need it.

You really need on for each lens, but once you have your belt arrayed with bayonets, you can swap glass in seconds. It really is impressive.

The QuickDraw is a Kickstarter project by photographer and engineer Riley Kimball, and while $80 a pop isn’t exactly cheap, it’s cheap enough that I predict huge success. After all, $80 per lens is nothing for a pro, especially if it means you don’t miss a shot. And it might even mean you don’t need to lug that spare body along.

The QuickDraw comes in Nikon and Canon mounts.
