It leaves the Apple logo and the iPhone name on the back of your handset exposed, while providing plenty of protection to shield it from dings and drops.
The Mummy’s key features include an incredibly lightweight design, impact resistance protection for all sides of your iPhone, and easy access to all your buttons, switches, and ports. Its design even allows you to slip a credit card or two in the back of the case before you rush out.
The Mummy is available in a range of pretty colors — ten in total — and costs just $25. But is it worth your hard-earned cash?
The Good
You won’t find a silicone case for your iPhone that looks as good as the Mummy does on your device. It’s been carefully designed to leave your iPhone’s Apple logo and iPhone name exposed, while ensuring that your device is still protected at every angle when it takes a tumble.
Unlike those cheap silicone cases you’ll find for $2 on eBay, the Mummy is made from high grade silicone. What that means is, it’s super soft in your palm, and very durable. It’ll take plenty of abuse without tearing, and it will happily withstand a rigorous bashing from a sticky toddler.
It also provides a perfect fit all round. Cheaper cases can be too loose, and their sides can flap around. Others can be too tight, so they’re a struggle to pull on and take off. The Mummy fits just right.
The other thing that’s great about this case, which you don’t get with other silicone cases, is that it doesn’t weld itself inside your pocket. Its soft silicone will slip in and out without any struggle.
It doesn’t collect every piece of fluff and grime it comes into contact with, either. Sure, it’ll pick up some dirt over time, but what’s great about a case like this is that you can quickly pull it off and run it under a tap.
The other thing I like about the Mummy is that it’ll carry a few credit cards for you. Simply slip them inside the back of the case, and you don’t need to worry about carrying your wallet when you’re just popping to the store. This adds no extra bulk, and means that the back of your iPhone has even more protection that it normally would.
Even with a credit card or two inside, the Mummy is super lightweight, and adds no noticeable weight to your iPhone.
The Bad
There aren’t many bad things to say about the Mummy, but I did find a few minor negative points:
Because of the level of protection the Mummy offers, it is a little bulkier than other silicone cases. It’s not too bulky, however, and that thick silicone only offers extra peace of mind, reassuring you your iPhone is protected and that it’s less likely to shatter when you drop it.
The other thing you’ll need to bear in mind is that the Mummy’s unique design does leave parts of your iPhone’s rear exposed. This isn’t a huge issue because of the thick silicone that surrounds it, but if you drop your iPhone on a gravel driveway and it sees an unfortunate landing, there could be some damage.
The Mummy could have added one more silicone band right beneath the Apple logo for extra protection, but then it wouldn’t be practical for carrying your credit cards, because they’d be too difficult to slide in and out. Again, if you’re worried about that exposure, slipping a credit card in there will add extra protection.
The Verdict
If you’re on the lookout for a good silicone case for your iPhone — one that doesn’t stick to your pockets, collect fluff, and tear every time you remove it — then the Mummy should be the first case you check out, because it’s quite possibly the best there is.
