I listen to music from a number of places while I’m working. Most of the time it comes from Spotify, but I’ll also call on albums or songs I’ve purchased from iTunes, or check out songs Spotify doesn’t have on YouTube. It’s kind of a pain switching between the three, but there’s never been a better solution.
Until now. Meet CloudPlay, a fantastic little app that sits in your Mac’s menu bar and pulls music from all kinds of sources, including iTunes, YouTube, SoundCloud, and Internet radio stations.
CloudPlay stays out of your way; it doesn’t require a large windows that’ll clog up your desktop. When you want it, it’s just a click away. Simply open it up, type the name of the song or artist you want to listen to in its search box, and CloudPlay will find what you’re looking for online. All you have to do is hit play.
To make things even easier, you can even assign a hotkey to CloudPlay so that your hands needn’t ever leave the keyboard, or you can control it from afar with an Apple remote (providing you still have a Mac that supports an Apple remote, of course).
You can make playlists that contain all your favorite tracks, and discover new ones created by others from sites like Console.FM. There are thousands of live streams and online radio stations to choose from, so you’ll never be stuck for something to listen to.
CloudPlay is currently in beta, and you can download a trial version of the software now using the source link below. Be sure to leave your email address on the CloudPlay website, and you’ll be notified as soon as it hits the Mac App Store.
