Twitter For iPhone Updated With Expandable Tweets, Better Notifications, New Icon

The Twitter client used to send a tweet is no longer displayed in the new Twitter for iPhone.

Twitter has updated its official iPhone app in the App Store with several new features, including added settings for notifications, enhancements to the Discover tab, the new expandable tweets feature for viewing media content in the timeline, stability improvements, and the new Twitter icon.

Twitter for iPhone 4.3 is available now in the App Store for free. Change log after the break:

What’s New in Version 4.3

Twitter for iPhone 4.3
– Expanded Tweets: when you view Tweet details containing links to partner websites, you can now see content previews, view images, play videos and more [please note: this feature is rolling out gradually]
– Enhanced experience around selected events with the best Tweets and photos from those involved
– Push notifications for Tweets: choose to receive notifications from people you follow anytime they tweet or retweet
– Ambient notifications: enables you to see brief non-interruptive notifications in the status bar while you are using the app
– Improvements to search autocomplete for users
– Discover: now indicates when new stories are available for you to view
– Tappable avatars that take you directly to user profiles
– Performance improvements
– Support for password entry in app when experiencing authentication issues
– Hungarian language support
– Updated with new Twitter bird
– Many other tweaks, polish, and bug and crasher fixes

This version of Twitter for iPhone was leaked recently in the iOS 6 App Store. Twitter will hopefully update its Mac app with Retina graphics and similar improvements very soon.

It’s still a fail, Tweetbot does most of that and then some, including the useful features Twitter decided to remove from their app last year. I’ve long deleted the Twitter app from my phone.
