Twitter App For iPhone Getting Huge New Update?

As reported by Marc Gurman over at 9 to 5 Mac, Twitter’s official iPhone app is getting a big update soon.

The beta iOS 6 App Store has mistakenly loaded some app update screens for the new Twitter client, version 4.3. Twitter’s apps have been lagging farther and farther behind recently, due to changes in Twitter’s mobile API and third-party apps that include more power features than the official ones. The changes are substantive, however, in the upcoming Twitter app, as shown in the leaked release notes.

The leaked update app notes, shown above, promis more interactive experiences with content previews, images, and videos from “partner websites.” Special events will also be promoted and “curated” by Twitter.

Autocomplete and searching for people will be improved, as well as push notifications for Tweets – you’ll be able to know when selected people you follow have tweeted. There will also be ambient notifications, non-intrusive notifications in the status bar. You’ll also be able to tap user icons to go directly to that user’s profile. Hungarian language support is also in the notes.

Oh, and there’s gonna be a new Twitter bird, and a bunch of other “tweaks, polish, and bug and crasher fixes.” Cool, right?

No word on when the app is slated to actually release, but if Gurman’s experience with Instagram is anything to go by, it could be as soon as ten days from now.

All in all, this can only be a good thing for consumers and Twitter alike. Bringing the official app up to speed will only help new users find and use Twitter that much more easily and intuitively, building a better brand experience for all.
