Opening this week’s must-have games roundup is a stunning first-person shooter that has you protecting planet Earth from invasion from the “Xenos,” who are on a mission to infect every civilian that gets in their way. We also have a crazy dual-stick shooter that has made the leap from Xbox LIVE to your pocket, an update to Angry Birds Space, and lots more.

Razor: Salvation — Universal ($0.99)

Razor: Salvation is the first instalment in a series of games that tells the story of the “Xenos,” and why they have invaded planet Earth. It’s a fixed-place first-person shooter — which means you don’t acually move around — in which you are the commander of a dropship called “Salvation.” It’s your job to protect the civilians from the Xenos. Razoroffers a variety of weapons to choose from, including grenade launchers, rocket launchers, and railguns; console-quality graphics optimized for the new iPad’s Retina display; GameCenter integration; plus lots more. Being a fixed first-person shooter, I wasn’t sure I’d like this game all that much. But it’s a whole lot of fun. It currently has 66% off to celebrate its launch, so grab it while it’s cheap.

Inferno+ — Universal ($2.99)

You may have already heard of Inferno+, becuase it has been available for some time on on Xbox LIVE. But now the dual-stick shooter is ready to invade your pocket — and it’s even better than before.

It promises to be an “expanded and improved version” of the award-winning Xbox LIVE title — which goes by the same name — with over 40 beautiful levels in which you must fight off massive hoardes of enemies. There are 20 Game Center achievements to collect, high-resolution graphics for the Retina display, iCloud save syncing, and more. If you’re a fan of Inferno+ on Xbox, or similar titles like Geometry Wars, you’ll love this insane shooter.

Axon Runners — Universal ($3.99)

Axon Runners is a truly terrific looking game in which you travel around the futuristic city of Persepolis on a hoverboard to “discover the mysteries of the Nightstream.” There are 15 levels to tackle, and your aim is to achieve the highest score you possibly can.

You’ll have 10 hoverboards to choose from, each with special attributes that will help you collect more energy orbs and destroy the obstacles that get in your way. To improve your score, you’ll need to execute epic jumps and special moves for special points. Axon Runnersfeatures some really great visuals and some really addictive gameplay that you’ll find hard to put down.

Angry Birds Space — iPhone ($0.99) / iPad ($2.99)

Angry Birds Spaceneeds little introduction; you’ve probably been playing it for months already. But if you completed it and decided to put it down, it’s time to pick it back up again. The title just got another update that introduces the new Utopia planet, with 10 tasty treat-themed levels filled with popcorn, cookies, and candy apples that look good enough to eat.

Speedway GP 2012 — Universal ($0.99)

Say goodbye to brakes and gears and look forward to a motorbike racing experience like no other in what promises to be the “most exhilarating racing game on mobile devices.” Speedway GP 2012from Vivid Games and BSI Speedway is the only official speedway game on iOS. Set during the 2012 Speedway Grand Prix season, it gives you the chance to compete for that champion’s crown across 12 real-world stadiums with 15 superstar Speedway riders.

It features commentary from Motorsport journalist Tomasz Lorek, stunning 3D graphics, and a replay mode that allows you to evaluate your performance and tweak your game. Practice for fun in casual mode before competing for the title in the pro gameplay mode. And if you’re struggling to get ahead, you can take advantage of the in-app purchases to buy upgrades that will improve your performance.

Duckers — Universal (Free)

If you want something simple and fun to get you through the weekend, then Duckers should be your next App Store download. It’s a casual game in which you help Duckers the duck (obviously) dig for gold coins and gems, and collect the secret items burried deep underground.

It features a cast of cute characters, lots of different areas to unlock, Game Center achievements, and the ability to compete with your friends on the leaderboards. Its big, bright visuals make Duckersa terrific “pick up and play” game that’s a whole lot of fun for you and the kids.
